About carseal

carseal is an independent app that seals tamper-evident, timestamped proof of a rental car's condition at pickup and return — so renters can prove pre-existing damage and dispute charges that aren't theirs. carseal is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or paid by any rental company.

What carseal does

A guided 90-second walk-around scan at pickup and again at return. Every kept photo is SHA-256 hashed into a Merkle tree, server-signed, and given an RFC-3161 trusted timestamp with GPS, then written to WORM (write-once) storage. An AI before/after comparison flags only genuinely new damage — fail-closed, so any doubt counts as pre-existing. The result is a tamper-evident Return Certificate with a public verification link anyone can check without an account.

How our guides and FAQ are researched

The guides and the FAQ are written and maintained by the carseal team. Every legal or policy claim is checked against a primary source before publication — card-network dispute rules (Visa, Mastercard, American Express reason codes), rental companies' own published terms and deposit policies, and consumer-protection resources such as the European Consumer Centres Network and the US FTC. Where practices vary by country or company, we say so rather than generalise.

Pages carry a visible "Updated" date. When a rule changes — a reason-code revision, a deposit-policy change — we update the page and the date, not just quietly edit it.

Corrections

If anything we publish is wrong or out of date, email contact@carseal.ai with a link to the page. Verified corrections are applied promptly and the page's updated date is bumped.
